Mashburn Construction Receives Construction Excellence Award

Columbia, S.C. — Mashburn Construction has been awarded the Construction Excellence Award, on behalf of the Carolinas Association of General Contractors (CAGC), for 2022. The CAGC Construction Excellence Awards honor projects recognized by the judges of the CAGC Pinnacle Award as projects of distinction. Only four projects throughout North Carolina and South Carolina were awarded.

The project recognized was The Pinch in Charleston, South Carolina. This project involved redeveloping four vacant buildings at the corner of King Street and George Street in historic downtown Charleston into a luxury mixed-use development. The once devoid buildings are now home to a high-end boutique hotel, restaurants and retail. The Pinch, taking inspiration from the buildings’ rich pasts and city’s preservation efforts, transformed underutilized buildings on one of the busiest corners in downtown Charleston and enhances the city’s growing tourism industry.

Each element was hand-picked to be a bridge between historic and modern, providing the property with a luxurious, modern-classic design.”

“It is an honor to be recognized by your peers on a uniquely complex project such as The Pinch,” says Richard Kinard, Executive Vice President of Mashburn Construction. “Our team, led by Ben Higbie, did a phenomenal job dealing with the intricacies of this historic project while simultaneously navigating the additional challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Richard Kinard was recently celebrated at the CAGC Annual Convention for the completion of his term on the organization’s Board of Directors for 2022. His role as “Building Division Chair” included initiatives such as continuing education for building contractors, recruiting ambassadors, identifying training opportunities and creating a more diverse membership base for the organization.
